At the end of 2018, another publication by the team of Laboratory of Media Studies UW was released - a multi-author monograph entitled "Tweeting Donald Trump. What is Twitter for users, journalists and the US President? From discourse analysis to eye-tracking research "(T. Gackowski, K. Brylska, M. Patera and others; reviewed by Agnieszka Hess (PhD) from the Jagiellonian University and professor Radosław Pawelec from the University of Warsaw). The authors present a multifaceted review of an interesting media and political phenomenon, which is the use of social media (on the example of Twitter) as a tool for shaping modern "soft power". This concept is based on the ability to shape other people's preferences without the use of pressure or violence, but rather with the help of a country's cultural resources. In this process, various diplomatic practices and communication tools useful at the international level are used, including Twitter, whose growing importance in conducting public diplomacy is reflected in the increasingly popular term "Twiplomacy".
Another publication resulting from the annual National Methodological Conference of Media Experts and accompanying methodological workshops (VIII OKMM, 16-17 November 2017, University of Warsaw) has been published. This time, the conference, the workshop and the publication undertook analyses of the idea of apps and their functionality. This space of scientific exploration seems particularly relevant in times of progressive mediatisation of successive areas of life. Technological progress, globalisation, convergence and mediatisation are changing the way people perceive the world, and one of the key modern technological tools is the application. However, the word application - despite its frequent use - is not defined unambiguously, and the dynamically changing functionalities of applications create not only new opportunities, but also new threats for users. Therefore, undertaking a scientific reflection on these modern tools seems useful and interesting.
FIFA 18 players – how do they feel and what do they see? Eyetracking, GSR/EDA, ECG, and facetracking – research reconnaissance
Video games have become popular immersive entertainment and what is more it has also been a dynamically growing business sector, likewise e-sport. Testing players engagement in a game has become an important and interesting challenge for social sciences researchers. In our experiment, we checked the physiological reactions of FIFA players during a game, especially the key parts of it.
We present the results of a survey on Polish-American relations conducted by the Laboratory of Media Studie UW.
In our study, 52 percent. Poles answered "no" and 19 percent. "Rather not" to the question "If it was possible, would you like Donald Trump to be the president of Poland?". However, 4 out of 10 respondents are of the opinion that the holiday visit of US President Donald Trump in Poland had a positive impact on Polish-American relations.
