We are pleased to announce that a paper by Adam Balcerzak, Marcin Łączyński, Aline Hufschmitt, and Tomasz Gackowski has been published in IEEE Xplore.
From Code to Cognition: Implementing a Puzzle-Based Game Framework for Biometric Analysis
https://doi.org/10.1109/ACDSA67686.2026.11468237
The publication follows a presentation delivered at ACDSA 2026 – International Conference on Artificial Intelligence, Computer, Data Sciences and Applications, held on February 5–7, 2026, in Boracay, Philippines under IEEE patronage.
The paper introduces a novel biometric research framework based on a puzzle escape room game developed in Unreal Engine 5. The environment enables controlled analysis of cognitive load, visual attention, and emotional responses during task-solving.
The experiment integrates gameplay telemetry, eye tracking, GSR, facial expression analysis (Affectiva), and synchronized data streams in iMotions.
Key findings include that time pressure and stressors increase negative emotional responses, while surprise and joy enhance task-focused attention.
The project was developed in collaboration with Académie militaire de Saint-Cyr Coëtquidan and demonstrates the potential of game-based environments as precise and replicable tools for studying cognitive and emotional processes.
