Poles do not believe in the objectivity of Polish news services in the context of reporting on the 100th anniversary of independence, according to a survey conducted by the Laboratory of Media Studies of the University of Warsaw.
The aim of the study was to find out what is the opinion of Poles on Independence Day and the ways of its presentation by the media. In the report, we present the most important findings of the survey.
Poles clearly express no confidence in TV broadcasters. “In this context, I see a certain paradox - in some statements of the respondents there is an echo of the narrative of the main news services, there appear popular media terms and epithets. Therefore, we evaluate TV stations as not fulfilling the criteria of impartiality, and at the same time we soak up the messages that these stations generate - says Karolina Brylska (PhD),University of Warsaw, Deputy Head of the Laboratory of Media Studies).
The implementation of this activity will ensure the promotion of the results of scientific research carried out by employees of the University of Warsaw. The projects will include, among other things, the organisation of specially-prepared lectures, lessons, and presentations addressed to various social groups, and the preparation of information in Polish and English on the scientific achievements of University of Warsaw employees, which will then be posted on popular scientific portals. There will also be a promotional campaign in the form of interviews and announcements, released in the Polish press and also published in English. It will be possible to obtain funds to organise thematic scientific conferences with the participation of foreign guests, dedicated to presenting the scientific achievements of outstanding researchers from the University of Warsaw.
On 26th of November 2019, at 5 pm, the Faculty of Journalism, Information and Book Studies at University of Warsaw hosted an opening of paintings by Ms Barbara Dybala entitled "Modern Woman". The exhibition was organised by Laboratory of Media Studies. The event was opened by prof. Janusz Adamowski, Dean of the Faculty of Journalism, Information and Book Studies and dr Tomasz Gackowski, Head of Laboratory of Media Studies. The paintings will be presented in the foyer of the former building Łaźnia Majewska (2/4 Bednarska Street, Warsaw) until the end of 2019. Below you will find a keynote text by the author of the works, a short description of each painting and a biography.
