Painting exhibition - "Contemporary Woman"

On 26th of November 2019, at 5 pm, the Faculty of Journalism, Information and Book Studies at University of Warsaw hosted an opening of paintings by Ms Barbara Dybala entitled "Modern Woman". The exhibition was organised by Laboratory of Media Studies. The event was opened by prof. Janusz Adamowski, Dean of the Faculty of Journalism, Information and Book Studies and dr Tomasz Gackowski, Head of Laboratory of Media Studies. The paintings will be presented in the foyer of the former building Łaźnia Majewska (2/4 Bednarska Street, Warsaw) until the end of 2019. Below you will find a keynote text by the author of the works, a short description of each painting and a biography. Further on, we also include a word of introduction to the exhibition given by Jacek Wasilewski, PhD, during the vernissage. We invite you to the exhibition.

The Faculty of Journalism, Information and Book Studies together with the Laboratory of Media studies at University of Warsaw would like to invite you to the exhibition of Barbara Dybala's paintings titled. "Contemporary Woman", which will take place on 26 November 2019 at 5 pm in the foyer of the building at 2/4 Bednarska Street, Warsaw
The theme of the exhibition is women. A fragment from the artist's text announcing the opening reads:
"Women carry life, love, they are strong, stronger than men, even though they are used to being called the weaker sex. Women are delicate but also valiant, brave and weak. Certainly, most of them fight for their families, but also for their freedom, their independence. There are those who will disappear, dissolve into oblivion, and those who will be left with the colourful stain of love. Ageing is a natural stage in the life of every person. To be beautiful is, first and foremost, to feel beautiful, to accept yourself as you are, with all your faults and virtues. For centuries, women have been kind of in the shadows, constantly fighting for their subjectivity, their own strong self. It seems to us that nowadays there has been a far-reaching change - emancipation. However, this is not the case. Women are free, they have rights, they can make decisions, they have choices. However, looking into the mirror of contemporary culture, are we women really in complete control of ourselves, our bodies, our lives and our souls?"
The opening will be opened by the Dean of the Faculty of Journalism, Information and Bibliology at the University of Warsaw, Prof. Janusz Adamowski. Moderated by Jacek Wasilewski, PhD, and Tomasz Gackowski, PhD.

“Three stages of a woman”. The painting is done in oil on canvas, dimensions 140-65 cm, in a wooden frame. The painting refers to three stages in a woman's life - a young woman, a woman in the prime of life, and a woman in puberty.
FOMO 2019: Poles and the fear of disconnection - new report from the 2nd edition of the research
On 9th of October 2019, from 10.00 to 11.30 a.m., a presentation of the report entitled "FOMO 2019. Poles and the anxiety of disconnection" took place in the building of the University Library in Warsaw (ul. Dobra 56/66, room 315). The document was created in collaboration between researchers from the Faculty of Journalism, Information and Book Studies at University of Warsaw, the Faculty of Psychology at University of Warsaw and Ariadna research panel, and was developed with the support of Google Poland. It is based on a representative, quantitative study of Polish Internet users, who again answered questions about the Fear of Missing Out syndrome.
Director of LBM UW, Tomasz Gackowski takes part in the IAMCR
Professor Tomasz Gackowski takes part in the IAMCR (The International Association for Media and Communication Research) conference in Madrid. IAMCR conferences address a wide diversity of topics. For IAMCR 2019, the central theme is Communication, Technology, and Human Dignity: Disputed Rights, Contested Truths.
Professor Tomasz Gackowski on the first day of conference presented a paper titled: „Trump Metaphorized. Metaphors of 45th president of the United States in the Polish press at the beginning of his presidency” in section about Politcal Communication Research.
